I’m Gill Wright

I’m running for Audit committee with a desire to become more familiar with and involved in union operations and contribute to the cause. Although I feel the current committee has done a good job, particularly over the past few yearly reports, there is room for further improvement.[spacer height="20px"]

I believe additional alternate presentations of the numbers would be useful tools for steering, setting goals and allocating resources in our organization. We could adjust income graphs for inflation or a Bay Area CPI, track trends over five or ten years or compare our financials to other unions in similar industries. I’d love to see payroll broken down by employer and facility tracked long term….[spacer height="20px"]

I’ve done some analysis with online data from LM-2s, 990 returns and 5500s where available back to 1995. Unfortunately, these documents have their limitations. Accounting forms and practices differ from year to year and from union to trust. For example, computing total member income from work fees collected verses contributions to the health or training trusts yields inconsistent results. I mention this “hobby” as an illustration of my genuine interest in the subject.[spacer height="20px"]
I think I would be an asset to the membership were I elected.
